Good Morning! The all important break-fast
I’m sure you know the word breakfast indicates a break from the fast you had when you slept for however long you did last night. I usually have 8 hours of sleep. Because we fast whilst sleeping our bodies are using the energy we usually use up during the day time for activity and digestion, for healing restoring and renewal of cellular functioning and bringing balance to our amazing bodies.
This is why it is SO important to support our body with this elimination of any toxins at this crucial time first thing upon awakening. Whatever we have first thing has a great impact on us for the rest of the day so if we choose fresh food full of water and life we feel fresh and alive!
I start the day with a fresh lime juice so that’s;
- 1 Liter of water
- 1 Lime
Squeeze the lime juice into the water and if you want to add any ayurvedic herbs such as Ashwagandha, Tulsi or Amla. The Vitamin C in the lime will help carry the herbs into your system more efficiently.
- 1 Papaya
- ½ a fresh coconut with water
- Whatever other fruit is in season that you love so chiku, fresh fig, strawberries 1 -3 of each
- 1 cup of water
- Blend all together so that even the coconut is also fully blended
- Finally add a tsp of sabja seeds
Papaya contains a superb digestive enzyme called papain; fruits give a boost of vitamins and minerals and the coconut brings very healthy fats. It is filling and satisfying. Sabja seeds from the Tulsi family are similar to chia seeds and are very good for getting the gut moving and settling the stomach.
A healthy rule of thumb is to leave 20 minutes after drinking liquids before eating and leave the same 20 minutes before taking liquids after you have had food.
I have this half an hour after lime juice when my belly is rumbling for fruit!
Whats for lunch?
This meal is usually taken around 2pm and consists of…
- Bean sprouts
- Sesame seeds ½ tsp
- Flax seeds ½ teaspoon
- Sunflower seeds ½ tsp
- Pickled Carrot – Cabbage – Cauliflower
- Olive oil and garlic dressing
This salad is so addictive wholesome and nourishing it brings me so much energy!
I have not included the amounts as you can choose yourself what kind of serving you would like depending on which veggies you prefer. The healthy fats are in avocado and the seeds which nourish the organs, keeping joints healthy and satiating us so we feel full up. Bean sprouts are a power house of enzymes as the food is still alive giving us deep nourishment. Lettuce is a vitamin boost but do not have too much as it does contain something that can induce sleep!
The pickle is raw veggies left for a few days in a screw top glass jar with a mix of healthy salt (ideally pink Himalayan) water and vinegar. This acts as a probiotic giving us healthy gut bacteria.
Olive oil is amazing oil with grated garlic mixed in it really does boost the immune system.
Eat with caution this salad is known to make one feel ultra healthy.
The Final meal
This is always before 8pm, after this time digestion slows down and becomes less efficient. If you are prone to eating 2 hrs before sleep you are likely to develop a pot belly! This is due to the food unable to digest properly and lying inside the intestines adding on to the belly.
- Cauliflower 1 cup
- ½ cup of flax seeds
- 2 cloves of garlic
- Black pepper a pinch or two
- 1 teaspoon of organic turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- Whizz the flax in a coffee grinder with the pepper, garlic and turmeric until a nice doughy texture forms.
- Blend the cauliflower in a separate bender adding the coconut oil slowly.
- Mix everything together.
- Knead in a bowl the texture will change and all of the ingredients sticks together. If the texture is too hard or flaky add a little water.
- Form into a circle shape and refrigerate until ready.
This raw cheese has healthy fats in due to the flax and coconut oil both beneficial for regulating the hormones. Turmeric is an excellent tonic for many things and adds an edge to the flavor as does the black pepper giving a deep taste. Garlic also gets the bodies energy circulating and the cauliflower I use as it is filling.
You can add whatever you like to go with this cheesy textured invention, I usually have carrot and celery crudités with sliced tomatoes and onion as it goes really well with this whole dish.
Through out a day I drink a lot of lime juice in between meals and some times snack on dried figs or fresh fruits, as always listening to what the body is asking for.
